2. Buthyloctyl Salicilylate 특징 및 사용 예
부틸옥틸 살리실레이트는 스킨케어 와 헤어케어 제품에서 2차 용매와 연화제로 사용된다. 특히, 최근 들어서는 부틸옥틸살리실레이트가 선크림 제품을 만들시에 부스터 효과가 탁월하다고 알려져 있어 신흥강자로 떠오르고 있다. 선크림 사용시 노출 후 피부가 얼마나 붉어지는지에 따라 등급이 결정되는데 그에 대한 발적을 줄여주고 자외선 차단의 SPF 요인을 얻을 수 있다고 알려져 있다.
혹자는 살리실에이트가 경피적으로 흡수되어 생식 및 발달에 대해 독성을 유발 할 수도 있다고 가능성을 제기, 4살 이하 어린이에게는 사용을 피하도록 권장하고 있다.

Salicylates are absorbed percutaneously and systemic exposure may have the potential to cause reproductive and developmental toxicity. Butyloctyl salicylate should not be used in children below 4 years, in people who are hypersensitive to salicylates, and in asthmatics.

화장품 성분 위험성의 가늠하기 위해 많이 사용되는 EWG 홈페이지내에는 암, 알러지, 독성에 관한 등급이 낮음을 알 수 있으나, 이는 이 성분에 관해 아직 정보가 많이 없어서 나타나는것으로 보인다.
